The BBC's Hit Reality Show 'Celebrity Traitors' Renewed for Season 2
The highly anticipated sequel to the record-breaking British reality show 'Celebrity Traitors' is set to return to our screens in 2026. This thrilling game, hosted by the charismatic Claudia Winkleman, has already captivated audiences worldwide, with its first season becoming the biggest unscripted series in the UK since 2021.
The finale of the inaugural season was a breathtaking spectacle, as comedian Alan Carr emerged victorious, securing the entire prize fund for his chosen charity. The episode attracted an astonishing 14.8 million views over 28 days in Britain, making it the most-watched unscripted show of the year. The finale itself drew an incredible 11.1 million viewers, with a peak of 12 million, surpassing the BBC's own record-breaking Gavin & Stacey viewing on Christmas Day 2022. The overnight share of 81 percent was the highest since the European Soccer Championships, and the live requests on BBC iPlayer reached a staggering 1.9 million, the highest for any entertainment episode in iPlayer's history.
The first season featured a star-studded cast, including actor Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie (known for her role in Bridget Jones), singer Paloma Faith, Olympian Tom Daley, chat show host Jonathan Ross, and Nick Mohammed from Ted Lasso. The show's success has not only resonated with British audiences but has also gained international acclaim, with installments in the U.S., Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, Greece, and India.
In addition to the second season of 'Celebrity Traitors', Platform Media will produce new episodes of the companion show 'The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked', available on BBC Sounds, BBC Two, and iPlayer. The announcement of the sequel coincides with a new report revealing that the entire Traitors franchise has generated an estimated £21.8 million boost for Scotland's economy since 2022.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, 'Studio Lambert has done an outstanding job, captivating the nation with 'Celebrity Traitors'. It has become a highlight of the year, bringing record numbers of people together to enjoy its twists and turns.' She added, 'In 2026, the castle doors will open once more, welcoming celebrity players to charm, scheme, and compete for survival in a season that promises to be just as captivating as the first.'
This renewal is a testament to the show's enduring appeal and its ability to engage audiences across the globe, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the next thrilling installment.
